Collections of 'rat de cave' spiral Candlesticks - 18th century - 9¾"

SKU: 14098

US$1,400
A rare collection of six 'rat de cave' candlesticks from the eighteenth century. The name translates to 'cellar rat' - these quirky candlesticks were designed to be used throughout the home, particularly in the cave - they have little hooks on the tops for hanging up. They have an open iron spiral stem so that melted wax and spent candles can easily be removed. The bases are a mixture of different woods - walnut, oak etc. The design dates from the seventeenth century. Sourced from a passionate 'rat de cave' collector.
