Tina Arena has shared an emotional Instagram post after she cancelled the UK and Australian legs of her Love Saves world tour while battling a mystery illness.

The Australian pop star, 56, shared a video on Monday evening that saw her decorating her Christmas tree illuminated by fairy lights.

'Just wanted to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas. It's been an interesting year, lots going on,' she said in the clip.

'Health wasn't great, but it's getting much better, so I want to thank you all for your beautiful messages,' Tina went on.

'I've read everything, tried to answer as much as I can possibly answer. I'm getting much better, but I hope all of you are doing well.

'It's tough with stuff that's going on in the world today, but I hope everyone finds some peace and joy this Christmas.'

The pop star concluded: 'I'm sending you lots and lots of lots of love. I'll see you next year'.

Tina previously raised concern after she postponed several Australian shows to 'prioritise' her health, and earlier this year announced that her scheduled performance in London on November 24 had also been axed.

An email to ticketholders contained a statement from Arena, in which she apologised for having to make such a difficult decision.

'I understand the disappointment you feel, because I feel it too,' she wrote.

'Performing live is one of my favourite things in the world – I love to see your smiling faces in the crowd as we spend precious moments together surrounded by love and the healing power of music.'

Arena cited her health as the reason behind her decision, but gave no specific information as to the nature of her illness.

'As much as I wanted to soldier on, I realised that the biggest gift I can give you all is to honour my body and prioritise my healing,' the Chains singer wrote.

'So when I do return to the stage, I'll be bringing you the best of me. You deserve nothing less. I promise I'll be back!... Until we meet again,' Arena concluded.

Arena had opened the Love Saves world tour in Sydney on October 7, before performing in Perth the following night.

She however pulled the plug on the remainder of her Down Under tour a day before her next scheduled show on the Gold Coast on October 13.

The star's cancelled gigs included the Gold Coast concert, a Melbourne show for October 20 and the tour's finale in Adelaide on October 21.

'For the very first time, I have to postpone the rest of my Australian shows,' she explained in her Instagram story.

'Believe me when I say, it was a hard decision. But remember, health always comes first. Therefore, to ensure it won't happen again... here we are.

'Please hold on to your tickets, there will be more information soon. I wish you all the very best, and my sincere apologies for any inconveniences.'

Arena has since cancelled her tour dates in Canada, Paris and the US.
