I've been a fan of the Tenchi Muyo series ever since its debut on Cartoon Network. As such, when I came across this new OVA of the series, I wondered: "What is this exactly about?" Well, here's the rundown: This is the third OVA installment of the Tenchi Muyo series. This particular OVA is set after the events of the first OVA ("Tenchi Muyo: Ryo-Ohki" or the first season of Tenchi Muyo on Cartoon Network). Which left me at the question: "Why couldn't they just place this as part of the first season?" I don't know the reason why; all I know is that it accomplishes to both end the first season and start the fifth season "Tenchi Muyo GXP!" The animation has drastically changed as well as some of the voices in english (I prefer to watch anime in japanese). The plot answers the quesiton of the Three Goddesses, but raise a question on the events that Mihoshi went through in her life (though little, it may be explained in the fifth season). It still holds fast to the usual tradition of girls chasing after main guy while trying to fend off disaster. Overall, I'd say that this collection is for those who look for an answer to the first season of the series, in which "people" I mean by fans of the series.Read full review
This is the 3rd OAV, all seven episodes on 3 discs. At times it can be confusing story-wise, but really, it's pretty good. The big flaw is that it introduces WAY too much at once, and episode 6, titled "Z" is very confusing, probably because it's so rushed. The first episode contains flashbacks to OAV 1 & 2. Yep, straight from them, no remastering or anything. It looks weird, but that aside the show is not bad and the DVD contains really cool special features for Tenchi fans. The English dub is less favorable than Geneon's dub of everything Tenchi before this, so I recommend Japanese w/subs. 4/5 stars at best, a must have for Tenchi fans.
I've been wanting to watch Tenchi Muyo Series for a long while, & haven't really been able to watch it. Thanks for having this Animated Series..
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
If you watched the English dub, Funimation licensed this (instead of Pioneer) and changed all the voice actors, some of them sound close enough to their predecessors that it's not too noticeable, but most of them sound completely different. Though they did a good job, they just don't sound right. It's like having Arnold Schwarzenegger dub for Antonio Banderas!
Awsome series. Wish there was a collection containing all of it even the movies! This box set contained most of the series. Its not a bad way to get started with Tenchi. I would suggest getting this the Mohoshi Special DVD the movies, the GPX collection, and then the 3rd OVA to complete the entire collection.
