Armand F. Desrochers, formerly of Central Street in St. Johnsbury, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 31, 2013 at the age of 86. He had been a resident at The Pines since early 2012 where he received wonderful care.

He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt. on April 3, 1927, one of nine children born to Felix and Marieanna (Pinard) Desrochers. His wife Dorothy (Salls) Desrochers predeceased him on Oct. 8, 1994.

Armand worked at Sears, the former Peck Co. and retired in 1989 as a caretaker for the Fairbanks Museum. He enjoyed playing bass guitar in several country western bands over the years.

Armand was a Navy veteran of the Pacific Theatre of WWII and served in the Navy Seabees from March 1945 through August of 1946. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserves until 1953. He four times served as commander of the VFW Post #793. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #30.

He is survived by six children: Theresa Goldrick and husband Matt of West Danville, Annette May and husband Richard of St. Johnsbury, Rachel Desrochers of Granby, Conn., Francis Desrochers of Colchester, Robin Heath and husband Steve of Franconia, N.H., Jeanne Nummelin and husband Jeff of St. Johnsbury; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother John Desrochers and wife Sheila of South Burlington; two sisters: Sr. Bernadette Desrochers of Staten Island, N.Y., and Helen Ducharme and husband Leo of Manchester, N.H. ; brother-in-law Elton Cady of Littleton, N.H.; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers Alfred, Robert and Paul, and by two sisters Marguerite Cady and an infant sister Therese.

Friends and family will gather at the Sayles Funeral Home Sunday afternoon, Nov. 3 from 2-4 p.m..

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Johnsbury this Monday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial with Navy military honors will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions could be directed to VFW Post 793 Scholarship Fund, 204 Eastern Ave., St. Johnsbury VT 05819.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at The Pines and Corner Medical who cared for him and laughed with him over these last several months.
