Located in the Lower Rhine, on the territory of Neubois, the castle of Frankenbourg is a former medieval castle partly classified as an historic monument. Its ruins take place on the top of Schlossberg and is located on an ancient Celtic or Roman site.
From the heights, one enjoys a breathtaking view of the plain of Alsace, the Val de Villé or Breitenbach. Accessible on foot from several surrounding villages, the castle of Frankenbourg still reveals an empty rectangular enclosure, and a dungeon rather well preserved. Up to nearly eleven meters, it also has a wall thickness of four meters.
It is also possible to see the remains of a pagan wall nearby. Baptized by Pope Leo IX, it would go back according to specialists in the Iron Age.
