Gabrielle Union and her step-daughter Zaya Wade are style forces in their own right, and the pair made a fashionable joint appearance on the red carpet at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles last night, on March 30.

Zaya, who made her catwalk debut at Miu Miu’s autumn-winter 2023 show at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month, wore a look from the brand on the night: mini-shorts under one of its über-mini skirts and a black satin jacket. The teen also carried Miu Miu’s coveted pocket bag and wore the thong-toe boots that were seen on its spring-summer 2023 runway.

Union, meanwhile, was by her step-daughter’s side in a colorful embellished gown by Moschino, complete with a hood. Her stylist Thomas Christos Kikis posted a close-up picture of the actor’s look on Instagram, and MUA Joanna Simkin posted a video of Union emerging from a lift, showing the sequined dress in all its glory.

Zaya took to her own Instagram Stories to say how much she loved attending the awards and encouraged her followers to make a donation to GLAAD. “LGBTQ+ rights are so important to me, and I’m always going to strive to do as much as I can in this space,” she wrote.

At the NAACP Awards last month, Gabrielle Union and her husband, Dwayne Wade (Zaya’s father), honored the 15-year-old in their speech upon receiving the president’s award. “Zaya, as your father, all I’ve wanted to do was get it right. I’ve sat back and watched how gracefully you’ve taken on the public scrutiny,” Wade said of his daughter’s journey of living openly as a trans teen. “And even though it’s not easy, I watched you walk out of that house every morning as yourself. I admire how you’ve handled the ignorance in our world.”
