OK, where does the story go from here? I used to see these individual issues in the shops, from the great B&W publisher Slave Labor Graphics. McKeever got some good work out of this good work, but the art is, well, fair to middling in the realistic depiction of character.
Ok, mildly recommended.

I picked up this series in individual issues back when i lived in Wyoming. Halley's Comics in Fort Collins, CO used to bundle whole series together and sell them as a set. So, instead of collecting issues by issue, you could just get the whole thing every month.

Man, I loved that place.

Anyhoo, this is my first experience with Sean McKeever. I really enjoy the way that he writes dialogue, and the intense understanding that he has for the hesitancy and fear that teenagers and twentysomethings experience.

It's a shame you don't see many comics like this anymore. While there was clearly a learning curve on the parts of both the artist and the writer, The Waiting Place is a slice of life, soap operatic story where the characters revel themselves slowly over the course of several issues. Like I said, there's some awkwardness throughout, especially in the early issues, but I'm glad I picked this up.

I am not entirely sure why I was drawn to pick this volume up at the library. I had heard nothing about it, and I am not sure I thought it looked that overly impressive either. In fact, having brought it home, it ended up lying unread through a few renewals, before I decided to give it a go, since I had after all picked it up in the first place. Initially, I was not overly impressed either, perhaps in part because of not knowing what to expect, really.

The black and white art by Brendon and Brian Fraim is good, but at the same time, it is not the kind of good that leaps from the page and tells you so. Instead, it is slightly more quiet, yet highly qualified in a narrative sense. And Sean Kelley McKeever's story is one that grows on you slowly; bit by bit, immersing the reader in the everyday lives of its characters in the small town of Northern Plains, with their problems and pains, hopes and dreams.

So, from not having known what I was getting into, I came out wanting to read more. I will definitely be on the look out for the continuation of McKeever's narrative.
