Superboy isn't on Kansas anymore, not even the same century!

I bought this on its two prestige format single issues, but I chosen this TPB edition to make a better overall review.

Creative Team:

Writer & Inker: Mark Farmer

Illustrator: Alan Davis

A LITTLE DETOUR IN ALBUQUERQUE

This is an imaginary story (but hey, aren't they all?), so maybe the best way to describe it is that it's a "elseworlds" story where you can appreciate what would happen if baby Kal-El wouldn't arrive to Smallville, Kansas in the 20th Century, discovered by the humble Kents, but...

...in the 30th Century!!! Adopted by R.J. Brande (richest man in the galaxy!)

So, Superboy instead to be an "inspiration" to young heroes in the 30th Century to form "The Legion of Super-Heroes", he is actually founding it!

Of course, Superboy will be the leader, he is Superboy after all, so who else better than him to lead?

Ah, my friends, there is where the game begins!

R.J. Brande is a good and kind man, but he is rich and Kal-El grew up in an ambiance without needs, and while he means well to make a super-team to help people,...

...there are lessons that you only can learn in the hard way...

...and since he didn't learn them growing up in a place like Smallville, Kansas, in the 20th Century...

...those crucial and valuable lesson will be learn on the road...

...with the lives of his teammates in the crossfire!

Everybody is an embodiment of lessons in life and death, and Superboy isn't any different.

This creative team of Davis & Farmer, are the same ones of Justice League: The Nail, so you know that they have balls, and they aren't afraid to show us the horrors of "real life" in this comic book environment.

Prepare to be amazed!

An Elseworlds tale where Superboy did more than inspire the Legion of Super-Heroes, he founded it. In this reality Kal-El's spaceship drifts through space in suspended animation until the 30th century where R.J. Brande (the Legion's financier in DC's main timeline) finds the ship and raises Kal-El as his own. Superboy is inspired by the superheroes of the 20th century to start his own superhero team. It's a nice spin on the traditional origins of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Alan Davis's bright, fun art is perfect for the Legion.

I am an HUGE LOSH fan and have always loved the older 60s & 70s stories. This Elseworlds story really captures the feel of those older stories. The Alan Davis art is just icing on the cake. Very recommended

This story, which starts out with the baby Kal-El in suspended animation, discovered by J.B. Brandt (original founder and fiscal provider of the Legion) in the 31st century. Brought up as a spoiled rich boy, uncontrollable because of his powers, unable to understand why the Science Police dictate everything, Superboy decides to form a group of other super powered youths to help those who can't afford the Science Police. And what could have been a GREAT story is only mediocre. The main reason is that this story is just too damn talky. Word balloons obfuscate most of the pages and much of the action. It really needed some editing.
