Turns out super-ripped Commissioner Gordon wasn't even the point.

You may have seen a photo floating around the interwebs in the last few weeks of Oscar winner J.K. Simmons looking extremely jacked. Like really ripped. Like creepily, veins-bulging-in-full-glory yoked. J.K. Swole-mons, you might even say.

If you, like me, assumed the Whiplash star was bulking up for a movie role—perhaps his turn as Commissioner Gordon in Justice League—then you, like me, were wrong. Simmons wasn’t pulling a dramatic body transformation in hopes of snagging another Academy Award. Nah. As Simmons explained to Business Insider, he’s jacked just for the fun of it.

"This is all coincidental," Simmons said of his physique. "After the second and final time that I got hugely fat in my life and when I lost that weight six or seven years ago, I pretty much decided that I was going to stay in decent shape for the rest of my life."

Working out just to stay in shape and not win anything? Seems like a waste of time to me. Then again, maybe I'd feel differently if I too worked out wearing ambiguous gold-plated armor.
