City of Lincoln to remember Pearl Harbor during virtual ceremony

It will be streamed on LNKTV at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. 

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The city of Lincoln will hold its annual Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Ceremony virtually once again this year.

It will be streamed on LNKTV at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The program will include remarks by city council member Bennie Shobe and Veterans Memorial Garden advisory council member Diane Bartels.

Bartels will discuss the USS Arizona and veteran Donald Stratton, a Navy seaman who survived the Pearl Harbor attack. The Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska Honor Guard will present the Colors and Catherine Bobst will be the featured musician. Chaplain (Major) Zachary Brueningsen will deliver the invocation and benediction.

The Veterans Memorial Garden, 3200 Veterans Memorial Drive, is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

It’s the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor and other locations in Hawaii killed 2,403 service members and civilians and was a defining moment that led to U..S. entry into World War II.

In Washington D.C., President Joe Biden has already paid his respects to the World War II Memorial early Tuesday morning. Biden touched a wreath at the memorial and saluted on Tuesday. In a White House proclamation issued last week to recognize National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, he gave “thanks to the Greatest Generation.”
