FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Prosecutors in North Texas say they will seek the death penalty against a man accused of drowning his wife by throwing her off a bridge after tying a rope attached to concrete around her neck.

Court records show the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office filed a notice on Sept. 16 of intent to seek the death penalty against 34-year-Rodolfo Arellano.

Arellano, from Fort Worth, is charged with capital murder in the death of his 28-year-old wife, Elizabeth.

Her body was pulled from Lake Worth after authorities were called April 16 about a possible suicide from a freeway bridge. Authorities say the couple had separated and Elizabeth Arellano was planning to divorce her husband.

Rodolfo Arellano remains jailed on a $500,000 bond.
