Edmund Marion Ashe, Jr., better known as Edd Ashe, had a long career in graphic and plastic art as a realistic illustrator, although he is hardly known by the big public. His father, E. M. Ashe, was a renowned illustator (until the early years of the 20th century) and then a fine artist. He was also the head of the art department of Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie-Mellon) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
From time to time mural painter and advertising illustrator, he was active as a comic book artist during the 1940s. Ashe collaborated on the Archie periodicals Pep Comics and Top Notch Comics with features like 'The Human Torch', 'Ted Towers' and 'The Wizard'. He also made comic adaptations of 'The Saint' (Lev Gleason) and private investigator 'Mike Shayne' (Dell Comics). Most notable was his version of the series 'Don Winslow of the Navy', which he drew from 1943 for Fawcett Publications. Other Fawcett work include 'Commando Yank' for Wow Comics and contributions to Yank Comics.
