Born in Le Havre, Denis Frémond started out making paintings and as an actor in the theater. He soon turned to creating comics, and made his first Woody Allen inspired stories for Pilote and Pilote et Charlie in the early 1980s. These works were later collected in four albums by Albin Michel: 'Sentimental', 'Des Filles Formidables', 'Touche pas mon Corps', and 'Je Veux de l'Amour'. At the same time, he joined L'Écho des Savanes, where he created the unorthodox journalist 'Jo Engo' in 1985. He made two long stories featuring the character, drawn in a Clear Line style. In 1991, Albin Michel published his album 'Les Célibataires'. In that same year, he published 'Farniente' at Les Humanoïdes Associés.
