Bart Sears was born and raised in upstate New York. After high school, he attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartooning and Graphic Arts. He has been working as a comic artist since 1986. Most of his early work was promotional work and designs for properties like 'Sectaurs', 'G.I. Joe' and 'C.O.P.S.', as well as the fantasy roleplaying genre. His first comics were some unpublished back-up stories for Marvel, followed by the graphic album 'Hero Alliance' for Pied Piper Press. He then became a regular cover artist for Quality Comics, and also worked with characters like 'Conan'.
Sears eventually found his way to DC, where he stayed from 1988 to 1993. He began with work for 'The Spectre' # 22, the 'C.O.P.S.' comic and the 80-page finale to 'Invasion!' before becoming penciller on 'Justice League Europe'. After 'JLE', Sears got to draw titles like 'Batman' and 'Eclipso'. In addition, he began making his drawing tutorials for Wizard magazine, and teaching at the Joe Kubert School for a year. He eventually became freelancer and took assignments from Valiant ('X-O Manowar', 'Turok'), Marvel ('Silver Surfer', 'Midnight Sons'), Dark Horse ('Titan', 'Will to Power' covers), before setting up his own comic book company, Ominous Press, in 1994.
When the company went under, Bart Sears returned to Valiant in 1995 to to 'X-O Manowar' again. He also went to work for Penthouse Comix and did new assignments for Marvel, such as 'Blade', 'Peter Parker: Spider-Man', 'Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man' and eventually the relaunch of 'Spider-Woman'. Sears then headed for Florida to work for CrossGen, doing titles like 'The First' and 'The Path', before becoming the company's art director. In 2005, he returned to DC with 'Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight' and 'Warlord'.
