On Wednesday, April 13, customers at MeCycle café were treated to an early morning surprise with the arrival of Radio City 96.7 for a live recording of the Leanne and Dave at Breakfast Show - part of the station’s Coffee Shop Tour series.

From 6am – 10am, visitors to the café and bike shop were entertained to music, games and hilarity from everyone’s favourite breakfast duo.

MeCycle, located at Ainsdale, is a social enterprise run by Autism Initiatives – one of the UK and Ireland’s leading Autism specific service providers. The relaxed café offers a unique selection of quality, boutique cycle products, alongside carefully prepared menus using fresh local produce and including home baked cakes and Fair Trade coffee. The café’s primary role is to provide meaningful work opportunities within a supportive environment for people with autism – seeking to increase their own skills, knowledge and enhance their lives.

Speaking about MeCycle, Breakfast show presenter Leanne commented: “I’ve never seen anything like it before, the atmosphere today has been exceptional and there’s been a real buzz in the community and a brilliant response on air across the North West. I hope we can encourage more people to come here and buy coffee and bikes. Radio City will remain big supporters of MeCycle.”

Asked why the show selected MeCycle as one of their tour spots, Show Assistant Steve Weaver said: "We want to get out and about and see places all around Liverpool. Part of the joy of this tour is finding gems like MeCycle and being able to give them a push.”

Between dares and jokes, audience favourite Adam Whittaker – aka Radio 96.7’s The Geg - highlighted the great role MeCycle plays in supporting people with Autism: “I think it’s absolutely unbelievable. It gives the opportunity of a lifetime to people with Autism and provides a great service to the whole community. And, they make gorgeous coffee!”
