Mark Ruffalo says Hulk has been cut from ‘Captain America: Civil War’

Mark Ruffalo has revealed that his character, Hulk, has been cut from Captain America: Civil War.

Last month the actor was spotted partying in Berlin, where the superhero sequel is now being shot, with three of its co-stars, Chris Evans, Daniel Brühl and Anthony Mackie. Inevitably, this sparked rumours that Hulk could be making a previously unannounced appearance in the film.

However, Ruffalo has now dismissed these suggestions in an interview with Italian outlet Bad Taste, saying that in fact, Hulk’s role has been sliced from the script.

Ruffalo is quoted as saying – in a translation from an interview originally published in Italian: “The reason is too great to be revealed in this movie. I was in the script but then they removed my character. They don’t want to reveal where is he and why. I don’t even know if Hulk will be back soon.”

Whether or not Hulk is involved, Captain America: Civil War boasts a massive cast of Marvel favourites. Alongside Chris Evans’ Captain America, characters confirmed to appear in the superhero sequel include Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany’s The Vision and Don Cheadle’s War Machine, as well as Captain America regulars such as Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie’s Falcon, Frank Grillo’s Crossbones and Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter.

Meanwhile, the new Spider-Man played by British actor Tom Holland will make his debut in Captain America: Civil War, which is set for release on May 6, 2016. Daniel Brühl will play supervillain Baron Zemo, William Hurt is reprising his role as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk and Sherlock‘s Martin Freeman has been cast in a currently unspecified role.

Marvel’s official plot synopsis teases: “Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age Of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity.

“After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.”
