Auguste Chabaud : (1882-1955) is a french painter and sculptor. After leaving Nîmes, he went to Paris to study at the Académie Julian and at the École des beaux-arts, and met there Matisse and Derain. Between 1903 and 1906, he made numerous drawings in an orientalist style, as he was doing his military service in Tunisia. In 1907, his Fauve period started. In 1911, his style became cubist. In 1913, he exhibited in USA next to Matisse, Derain, Vlaminck and Picasso. Some of his works are conserved at Centre Pompidou in Paris, at the Musée Calvet d'Avignon, at the musée de Toulon. One museum is entirely dedicated to him in Gravenson, in the Alpilles, where he lived until the end of his life.
