      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Alien3 takes admirable risks with franchise mythology, but far too few pay off in a thinly scripted sequel whose stylish visuals aren't enough to enliven a lack of genuine thrills.

David Ansen Newsweek Just at the point when Alien 3 should kick into high terror gear, it becomes clear that this hushed, somber sequel doesn't know how to deliver the goods. Feb 9, 2018 Full Review Anthony Lane Independent (UK) It suffers from poor supporting performances, and a plot that splutters instead of pushing on; but when the chase is on, all is forgiven. Jan 4, 2018 Full Review Jake Cole Slant Magazine For all its inherent structural problems, Alien remains a worthy intended conclusion to the series, finding its true resolution in Ripley's resolve to break the endless cycle of her torment. May 19, 2017 Full Review Don Shanahan Cinephile Hissy Fit Podcast Baby Fincher is trying more than we give him credit for and Sigourney Weaver turns the effort into something challenging and committed. Mar 18, 2024 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...generally fares better than its less-than-glowing reputation might’ve indicated. Rated: 3/4 Nov 4, 2023 Full Review Pam Smith Alabama Forum In short, the film is choppy with little or no flow in its delivery and does not leave you afraid of the dark. Audience Member Underrated film in the series and I have yet to view the Assembly cut which is suppose to be better. It is really slow though that doesn’t pick up until the end but boy does it pick up. This is one bloody movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review J K Underrated film that deserves far more respect Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Benjamin D not a joke this is one of the worst movies ever made Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Rick A A horrible betrayal of the second movie that actually makes Aliens less watchable by its very existence. No likable characters, no compelling storylines, not a single redeeming feature. I wish it didn't exist. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review Graham S Recently rewatched all the Alien movies. I hadn't seen this for 20+ years and remembered disliking it and was going to skip it until I found out about all the issues in the making, and read some of what Nolan's opinion on it was. It's a lot better than I remember and as a fan of Fincher, you can recognise his fingerprints on it. I know he has disowned it, but it's there to see. The first half in particular is great. It's the closest of the three sequels to the original IMO.
