Jack Anderson Miami Herald We didn't need a new version of U.N.C.L.E., but since when was any TV series based on need? May 17, 2022 Full Review Barbara Delatiner Newsday You know what? Maybe NBC should have just rerun the boys. The distaff version is pale by comparison May 17, 2022 Full Review Kay Gardella New York Daily News Another U.N.C.L.E. agent on TV within one week can only water down the audience interest in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., in our opinion. May 13, 2022 Full Review Win Fanning Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Co-agent Noel Harrison gave evidence of stealing most of the credits. The new series is, of course, only for U.N.C.L.E. fans. Doubt me if you will, but the second outing... was worse than the premiere. Sep 11, 2023 Full Review Donald Kirkley Baltimore Sun It's not likely to prove very effective, because the incumbent of the title role, Stefanie Powers, is rather a weak sister. Audience Member The Girl from U.N.C.L.E is not the strongest spin-off ever and it suffers from some poor writing choices. For one, rather than make April Dancer (Stefanie Powers) competent and deadly as she should be, being UNCLE's first female enforcement agent, they made her mainly a damsel in distress with extra spy gadgets. April's partner Mark Slate (Noel Harrison R.I.P) spends more time rescuing her than anything else. She does occasionally knock a villain out using one of her gadgets but April Dancer gets knocked unconscious by T.H.R.U.S.H agents in almost every episode. In fact they use every mean possible to knock poor Miss Dancer out, from chopping her on the neck to chloroform and everything between, She is also regularly kidnapped and left in some perilous position, such as hanging over a pool of piranhas in the Dog Gone Affair. Stefanie Powers dancing skills are put to good effect in The Mata Hari Affair and The Drublegratz Affair, the latter of which April is undercover as a go-go dancer and gets to wear a micro mini-skirt. There were some interesting guest stars too, including Boris Karloff in drag in the Mother Muffin affair. Overall, I think The Girl from Uncle is fun if you don't take it too seriously and I think it would have been worthy of a second season, with April being given more of a physical role rather than leave it to her partner. A young Stefanie Powers certainly had the physique for it. I think making April a demure, girl next door type character was a mistake and Miss Dancer could have been the American version of Emma Peel. Whatever else, April Dancer was a gorgeous secret agent.
