SU alum Taye Diggs gets ‘Back in the Groove’ with new dating show

Syracuse University alumnus Taye Diggs is giving a nod to his famous role in “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” with a new dating show. The actor hosts and executive produces “Back in the Groove,” a Hulu Original reality series featuring three single women in their 40s who check into a beautiful island resort (aka “The Groove Hotel”) where they’ll rediscover their youth, live joyously and look for love with 24 men that are half their age.

“Whether they find the perfect fling, friendship, true love, or something in between, this is their chance to take charge and break through the double standards older women face every day. And they’re going to have a lot of fun doing it!” the synopsis promises.

The unscripted show will be a special four-night event kicking off Monday, Dec. 5, with two episodes on Hulu. Two all-new episodes will be available daily through Thursday, Dec. 8, on the streaming service.

It’s the first unscripted Hulu original under Walt Disney Television Alternative and the latest project for Diggs, a Rochester native known for roles in “Private Practice,” “The Best Man,” “Chicago,” “Set It Up,” “Equilibrium,” “All-American,” and Broadway shows like “Rent” and “Hedwig & The Angry Inch.” He graduated from SU’s drama department in 1993 and has returned to Syracuse many times over the years, including at Orange sports games and alumni events.
