This complete writing workshop unit follows The Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg. This unit teaches the features of the mystery genre. Students start with using the photos of Harris Burdick to spark ideas for a story, students then take their mystery stories through all the stages/steps of the writing process.

Included in this Unit

  • 11 days of Writing Workshop lesson plans complete with learning targets!
  1. I can brainstorm features and characteristics of mystery stories.
  2. I can write mysterious sentences about photos I see.
