Selena Gomez shared a moment of vulnerability on a TikTok livestream on Thursday. The actress, who has been the subject of scrutiny since her adolescence, opened up about her weight fluctuations. She shared that the medications she’s taking to manage her lupus can cause regular changes to her weight.

“When I’m taking it, I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally. And then when I’m off of it, I tend to kind of lose weight,” Selena said.

Not that she should have to share her medical history with the public or provide any explanation for her weight, but she added, “I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they’re going through and nobody knows the real story so, I just want people to know that you’re beautiful and wonderful and yeah, we have days where maybe we feel like shit but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself and my medications are important and I believe they are what helps me so yeah not a model, never will be. I think they’re awesome, mind you, I just am definitely not that so that’s it, this is getting a little too much but I just wanted to tell you I love you guys and thanks for supporting me and understanding and if not, go away because honestly I don’t believe in shaming people for body or anything.”

Selena is clear and consistent on her message of body neutrality and acceptance. Earlier this year, the star was on an Instagram Live with her sister Gracie after the Golden Globes where they shrugged off comments Selena had heard about her appearance.

“I'm a little bit big right now because I enjoyed myself during the holidays," she said, while laughing with her sister. “Right? But we don't care."
