  • FCA's all-new Uconnect 5 infotainment system will support over-the-air updates, Amazon Alexa, five driver profiles, connection of two devices at once, and much more for FCA brands including Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, and Ram.
  • Drivers can customize their own profiles, and the home screen can feature the apps and controls they utilize most often.
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard on all FCA vehicles equipped with Uconnect 5.

FCA's new Uconnect infotainment system is all new for its fifth generation, and it will support Amazon Alexa, provide over-the-air updates, let you use two devices simultaneously, and offer Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. The new system will be displayed on a 12.3-inch ultra HD screen with a fully customizable home screen.

Uconnect 5 supports up to five driver profiles, which can be customized to the driver's preferences for music, apps, seat positioning, and climate, in addition to a valet profile. The home screen can be customized for each driver with the things they use most often. However, the system's interface is different across each FCA brand and vehicle trim level, and its design is simplified compared to previous generations. It's also about five times faster than previous generations thanks to a 50K MIP chip and 6GB of RAM.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard on all vehicles equipped with Uconnect 5, as does Amazon Alexa integration. Voice recognition is also integrated int0 the new system, which can be used to help find things such as the nearest EV charging station or to change the temperature inside the cabin.

Uconnect 5 can always stay up to date thanks to over-the-air updates. TomTom navigation also allows for seamless over-the-air updates to maps without interfering with the current navigation. And, because of an onboard telematics box module, the system even has the capability to allow autonomous driving in future FCA vehicles.

Sitting on the floor of the library and poring over issues of Car and Driver is one of Connor Hoffman's earliest memories. Choosing to attend the nation's top-ranked journalism school at the University of Missouri and graduating with a magazine writing emphasis was all part of chasing his dream of writing for Car and Driver. When he's not bragging about Mizzou having the best journalism program in the country, he's probably on a rant about Toyota trucks.
