Usain Bolt and Paul Pogba are athletes at the top of their game.
So with plenty of people willing 2016 not to let the door hit it on the way out, let's try to catch a little dose of the winning feeling these two have in spades.
"The winning handshake heading into New Year," Bolt shared with his social media followers on New Year's Eve after Pogba scored the winner for his beloved Manchester United earlier in the day.
The fastest man to ever live, who is looking forward to retirement after the World Championships in London in 2017, told MUTV when he called in after the game he was planning a quiet night in Jamaica with some fireworks.
Meanwhile, Pogba said an ice bath would be how he marks his New Year's celebrations after the Red Devils' victory over Boro as he recovers for their next match on Monday at West Ham.
Winners were definitely grinners during the bumper NYE fixtures with few happier than Liverpool's Georginio Wijnaldum, whose header delivered three points against Manchester City at Anfield in the late kick-off.
"It's amazing to end 2016 with a big win and I'm happy to be important for the team with my goal! I want to wish everyone a healthy and happy 2017."
The Reds players all posed for an end-of-year portrait to mark their second place finish for the year, six points off Chelsea and four points ahead of Man City, with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Dejan Lovren and Roberto Firmino agreeing the win was an ideal close to the season by sharing the same photo.
There was no bigger winner in 2017 than Cristiano Ronaldo, but New Year's Eve was about celebrating the birthday of his mother for the Ballon d'Or, Euro 2016 and Champions League winner.
Some of Pogba's team-mates shared a meal after the match, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan delighted to "finish the year on a positive note", in a post alongside a celebratory image with Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Marcos Rojo and David de Gea.
"I'll continue to work as hard as I ever have but you will never take this year away from me or my family," he says in a long post.
Others are keen to keep it simple, such as tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, who celebrated in New Zealand hours before the UK with a dance for her Instagram followers.
There were no opportunities to party for four Premier League teams, with Watford and Tottenham up first on New Year's Day at 1.30pm, followed by Arsenal at home to Crystal Palace.
But that didn't stop them wishing their fans the best for 2017, starting with a delighted Shkodran Mustafi, who returns to the Gunners' squad.
"This match is such a nice opportunity to start into the the year in a perfect way - but first of all I wish everyone a great New Year's Eve! I hope 2017 will bring success, health and only the best for all of us," the Germamn international said.
Here's a selection of how the sporting world is bringing in the new year and their best wishes to you.
