Maastricht, ville universitaire située à la pointe sud des Pays-Bas, se caractérise par son architecture d'époque médiévale et sa riche scène culturelle. Dans son centre historique pavé se dresse l'église gothique Saint-Jean. La basilique romane Saint-Servais abrite une collection importante d'œuvres religieuses. Le musée d'Art des Bons-Enfants, à l'architecture futuriste, est installé le long de la Meuse (Maas) qui coupe la ville en deux.
