This Mercedes-Benz Unimog got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1987 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U1300L was modified as an expedition-style vehicle by Wabi-sabi Overland beginning in 2017. It is finished in green and powered by a 6.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six paired with an eight-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and portal axles. The camper cabin is accessible from the cab and features a kitchenette, a dinette table, a sleeping area with a mattress, a refrigerator, a shower, and a bathroom. Additional equipment includes a 600-watt solar panel system, a Planar 2D diesel air heater, a Webasto engine block pre-heater, gray and freshwater tanks, a General Ecology water filtration system, LED lighting, double-glazed windows, a roof turret hatch, roof racks with ladders, Marston Mat sand ladders, a rearview camera system, an ARB awning, and a front winch. The truck was acquired by the current owner in 2019, and work carried out in March 2023 included changing the oil and replacing the batteries and winch roller fairleads. This Unimog camper is now offered on dealer consignment with recent service records, owner’s manuals, a full set of shop manuals, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Oregon title.

The Unimog U1300L body is finished in green and mounted on a black-finished frame with a custom rear bumper. Additional equipment includes a snorkel air intake, a roof rack with a cargo cage, two roof-rack-mounted aluminum foot lockers, a Superwinch EP 16.5 front winch, LED lighting, a locking fuel filler cap, four 20L Jerry cans, and a rearview camera. The winch roller fairleads were replaced in March 2023.

The camper cabin is mounted on a modified Mercedes-Benz subframe and equipped with double-glazed windows, an ARB awning, four under-mounted steel storage lockers, a roof turret hatch, and six roof-mounted solar panels totaling 600 watts. A 30-gallon freshwater tank, a 16-gallon gray water tank, and twin solids and blackwater tanks are mounted under the camper. The traction boards are reportedly WWII-era Marston Mats that have been sandblasted and powder-coated and they are mounted on the back along with an additional ladder.

The 20″ wheels are powder-coated white and mounted with Continental MPT 81 365/80 tires. The spare is mounted on the back of the camper and accessed with a hoist. The truck is equipped with air-assisted four-wheel disc brakes.

The cab features two air suspension seats upholstered in black cloth as well as gray cloth door panels, gray carpets, and Atkinson Vos sound-deadening floor mats. Sound-deadening material was also applied throughout the cab. The dashboard includes controls for the heater and differential locks along with indicator lights for the eight-speed transmission. An Alpine is mounted in an overhead console, and the rear of the cab has been modified with a lockable hatch to access the living quarters.

A two-spoke steering wheel frames a programmable dual-scale VDO speedometer, a 3k-rpm tachometer, an exhaust gas temperature gauge, and additional auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows 32k miles, and the total chassis mileage is unknown.

The living quarters feature LED lighting, a kitchenette, vinyl flooring, locking overhead and side storage cabinets, dual dinette seats, an oak table, a Planar 2D diesel air heater, a General Ecology Seagull water filtration system, and control panels for the batteries, solar power system, and holding tanks. The bathroom is outfitted with an Air Head composting toilet, additional overhead storage cabinets, and a high-volume ceiling vent fan. The shower is housed in the entryway and drains into a gray water tank.

The kitchenette includes oak countertops, three lockable cabinets, a sink, a Dometic alcohol-fueled range, and a Dometic CFX-40 compressor refrigerator.

The sleeping quarters feature a 48″ x 75″ memory foam mattress on a ventilated box spring. There is storage underneath the bed, and additional storage cabinets are mounted overhead along with a fan, a power strip, and dual windows with bug nets.

The truck is powered by a 6.0-liter OM366A turbodiesel inline-six and is reportedly fitted with an upgraded fuel primer pump, a tuned injection pump, and a Webasto Thermo Top C engine block pre-heater. Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through an eight-speed manual transmission with four reverse gears, a pneumatically-actuated transfer case, locking front, center, and rear differentials, and portal axles. The owner notes that high-volume front portal hub oil tanks are fitted, and service in March 2023 included replacing the batteries and performing an oil change.

The owner notes that the electrical system includes 300 amp-hours worth of Battleborn lithium iron phosphate batteries, a Victron 350W pure sine wave inverter, a Victron solar charge controller, a Victron battery monitoring system, a 20-circuit distribution panel, and a 20-circuit breaker panel.

The truck is titled in Oregon using the Mercedes-Benz VIN WDB4351151W141695. The title lists the make and style of the vehicle as COAH and MH respectively.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Wyoming and Oregon beginning in 2007.
