AMERICAN HORNBEAM

Description

AMERICAN HORNBEAM

This small Native tree is most often seen streamside, but is surprisingly drought tolerant. The smooth muscled bark is an attractive feature. The Tiger Swallowtail, Striped Hairstreak and Red Spotted Purple among many others rely on the Ironwood as a larval host. Many bird species feed on the seeds of this tree.
