Arizona Cypress Blue Ice (Cupressus arizonica var. glabra ‘Blue Ice’) is a striking evergreen conifer which features showy, lacy, silvery gray-blue foliage in dense sprays. Its waxy, scale-like needles are spirally arranged and retain their frosty blue-gray color throughout the season. Male and female flowers occur on the same tree in spring, with male flowers appearing as small oblong cones and female flowers as small, rounded cones that mature into fruiting cones in the fall. The ‘Blue Ice’ variety is fairly fast-growing, reaching a height of 40-50 feet (12-15 meters) and a spread of 15-20 feet (4.6-6.1 meters). It thrives in full sun, tolerates drought conditions, and is an excellent choice for use as a lawn specimen or hedge. Plus, it’s deer-resistant!
