Coin-Op Game Room Going Into the Gaslamp

Popular arcade bar Coin-Op Game Room, which first opened in North Park in 2013 and has since expanded to Sacramento and San Francisco, will launch its second San Diego location in the Gaslamp. It will replace Crazy Goose, the sports bar that took up residence on 6th Avenue in 2015. The new 7,180-square-foot downtown location, built out by Hawkins Construction, is scheduled to open by summer’s end. It will feature craft cocktails and 16 taps of beer focused on local brews. Entertainment will be provided via a selection of over 50 games ranging from arcade classics including Pacman, Donkey Kong, and Mortal Kombat to the multiplayer Xmen and NBA Jam, plus pinball machines, Skee Ball lanes and more. There will also be 15 flatscreen TVs for sports-viewing.

Co-founders Roy Ledo and Hassan Mahmood’s management company Sporting Fraternity, Inc runs all Coin-Op outposts in partnership with corporate chef Mark Bolton, corporate controller Mike Intindola and Carlos Valente, owner-operator of The Lion’s Share, the cocktail-focused restaurant that’s another of the group’s holdings.

As for the food menu, Bolton shared that “Coin Op’s menu will focus on our Napoli style pizza program that is in place in our Sacramento and San Francisco locations as well as shared items like buffalo cauliflower, spice rubbed chicken wings, and carnitas tots. As with all the Coin Op’s and The Lion’s Share, all the food will be made in house and from scratch.” The pizzas will be available by the slice or as whole pies. Valente will lead the design, which he says is “inspired by old Vegas, television, and the love of people-watching. The concept encourages guests to interact not only with the games, but also with the people playing the games.” Nick Fernandes, general manager of Coin-Op North Park, will oversee the new Gaslamp location as part-owner.
