This majestic specimen greets visitors at the beginning of our main pathway. It is of the largest Quercus frainetto trees in the country, at over 5m circumference.

Native of S. Italy, the Balkans, Romania, and parts of Hungary and Turkey; it was introduced about 1837. Ours was planted in 1870.

Its leaves are large and very lobed, and make a wonderful crunchy carpet in the autumn!
