I purchased this Pickle Press on Amazon after an identical one fell from eight feet and the clear part shattered (my mom reorganized my kitchen and didn't know what it was, so she put it in a top cabinet.) I've been using this for 4 years now, and find it works perfectly, even accomplishing tasks like slowly squeezing the water out of two tofu bricks at once. The 3 liter capacity is very roomy, and can be used for quantities of tsukemono pickles that take up most of the container, or use as little as 1/3 of it. Some folks might be a bit confused when first operating the open-close mechanism, but once you've learned how to do it, it's no problem at all. I bought it twice, so you know I think it's great!

Best Pickle Press Out There!

This is the best pickle pot I have used, and I've been making my own fermented veggies for a couple decades. In fact, I dropped & broke my last one, so I just reordered. (It's not easy to break because it's made of heavy plastic, but I dropped it off a tall counter. Fortunately it was empty!!!) The plate inside can be firmly pressed down onto the veggies by twisting the knob at the top. It can be tricky at first to learn how to unlatch it deliberately or to not accidentally unlatch it! The curved button on the top & side will unlatch one side of the container when you press on the part of that button that's closest to the round twisting knob. (If you place something on top of the lid, you might accidentally press the button & cause the plate to uncompress.) Here's how to open the lid: 1) When you are ready to remove the vegetables, just press the button on top, and one side of the lid will be unlatched. 2) Then unscrew the round knob. 3) Then you can open the side of the lid that's opposite the button. This may sound complicated, but it's really very easy!

freakin best thing i ever bought in my life. Make pickled veggies, namasu, kimchee, pickled baby onions, the list goes on and on!! my favorite is making kimchee. I wish it was bigger so i could make more at once. The only down side to this is that when you put too much veggies in it, the lid will pop off. Needs a better securing method. Buy it, seriously, its only 30 bucks, buy it. you'll thank me later.

Clumsy wife managed to break off a piece of the lid while trying to force it open. It is not quite as simple or durable as I would like, but I might buy again. It gets the job done. For vegetables that are finely shredded it is not always entirely successful at keeping them submerged -- they tend to slip past the edges of the plate. So I would not recommend for sauerkraut -- mine grew mold using this. For pickles it has worked great, but I refrigerate them after 24 hours.
