Mahmoud Abbas calls on the EU to accept Palestine as a state
Acting Palestinian Authority (PA) Chief Mahmoud Abbas urged European Union nations to separately or collectively recognize the state of Palestine based on the 1967 borders, the Ria Novosti informs.
“The Palestinian position was to resume the peace process with Israel, expecting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept to talk of two states and to halt Jewish settlements, especially in Jerusalem.”
"We are calling on the European Union to help us on the question of moving the United Nations to accept Palestine on the basis of the 1967 borders," Erakat said.
At the meeting, Abbas stated that peace with Israel would only be possible if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted Palestine as a state, the source informs.
