Dr. John J. Siudmak, 97, of Cedar Grove, N.J., entered eternal peace on Monday, April 18, 2022. He died suddenly of natural causes at his retirement residence in Boca Raton, FL.

Born August 29, 1924, in Passaic, N.J. to Joseph and Agnes (Kupiszewski) Siudmak, he was raised in Garfield, N.J. He graduated Garfield High School, Fordham College of Pharmacy, New York, and New York Medical College, and received his medical degree in 1948 specializing in General Surgery. From 1948-1953, he began his surgical training at Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City and completed his residencies at New York Metropolitan Hospital. In 1951, he married Jean Lampart and resided in NYC and welcomed their first son, Robert, in 1952. In 1953, he was called to duty in the US Army Medical Corp at Fort Meade, Maryland when their daughter Janet was born. In 1954, he was transferred for duty for one year as port surgeon caring for Army personnel and Captain to the Port of Whittier, Alaska, as his wife and two children set up residence in Bloomfield, NJ. Upon his return, he established his surgical practice in Montclair, NJ with his wife and nurse partner for 20 years. Their son, William was born in 1958 and Donald in 1963. In 1977, he married Janet Schwab until 2004. They remained friends. An accomplished pianist, John began studies at the age of seven and considered becoming a professional concert pianist but chose medicine instead. With his musical background, he continued to perform while in college when he joined the Fordham Glee Club as accompanist and soloist. In medical school, he formed and conducted a small singing group with musically adept classmates. He continued to play piano until the end of his life. He recognized how important music was to his medical profession. John was also an avid collector of coins, American paintings, and ceramic collections of Fairyland Luster (Wedgwood), and Japanese Satsuma. He retired from his surgical practice after 40 years and worked at Greystone Psychiatric Hospital in Morris Plains, N.J., in the employee's health clinic for the next five years. Throughout his medical career, Dr. Siudmak was known as a caring, meticulous, and exceptional surgeon. His retirement included his passion for documenting the family genealogy. He was known for his captivating stories about his life. In 2015, he moved to Florida and loved that he would be able to see beautiful greenery and colorful flowers for the rest of his life. He lived a vibrant, productive life until his final moment.
