Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea Tricolor' (syn. F.s. roseomarginata) has a spreading, open crown and attains a height of 10 - 15 m. It is conspicuous due to its peculiar leaf colour. The oval to ovate leaves are purple red at first. Later they get pink and creamy margins that have various widths. During the summer months the purple-red colour changes to brown purple. Size of the leaf is 4 - 9 cm. Moisture-retentive soil prevents scorching by the sun. Blooms inconspicuously. Park tree preferring well-drained soil, rich in humus content. Moderate wind resistance.
