Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea Tricolor' (syn. F.s. roseomarginata) has a spreading, open crown and attains a height of 10 - 15 m. It is conspicuous due to its peculiar leaf colour. The oval to ovate leaves are purple red at first. Later they get pink and creamy margins that have various widths. During the summer months the purple-red colour changes to brown purple.
