Semi-evergreen to full evergreen tree, 5 to 8 m tall, with a round to flat-topped spherical crown. The thick bark is dark grey, deeply grooved and highly corky. The ovate leaves have a very variable margin. A characteristic of this cultivar is that the leaves have a half-moon shaped dissection in the middle. There may be several small lobes above and below this dissection. Fruit is the same as the species. During severe cold, the leaves turn brown in the winter, only falling when the new leaves emerge. A healthy, warmth-loving tree which prefers a limy soil.
